CLARKSVILLE - Bonham continued to take steps toward improvement Friday night at Clarksville in its 2009 road opener, but the host Tigers and quarterback H.B. Rosser were too much to stop.
Rosser ran 21 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns, while Radonte Edwards scored a touchdown on the ground, in the air and threw for a score in Clarksville’s 34-21 win at New Century Club Field.
Rosser dove just inside the pylon for a key touchdown at the first-half buzzer to give the Tigers (2-1) a 20-7 lead at the break, and the defense fed off the score in the second half after holding Bonham (0-3) to 59 yards of offense in the final 24 minutes.
Rosser threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Edwards, who completed his second two-point conversion pass of the night for a 28-13 lead with 8:05 left in the third quarter.
Edwards later ran 25 yards around left end for a 21-point advantage on a drive set up by Rosser‘s 41-yard interception return. T.J. King’s five-yard return of a blocked punt was the Warriors’ only points of the half before a lengthy delay with 2:46 left in the game.
Bonham had its best start of the season after recovering a fumble on the opening kickoff and Washington finding Chase Gregory for a 38-yard touchdown pass on the first play from scrimmage.
Rosser drew the Tigers within a point later in the quarter after his 47-yard touchdown run following a successful fake punt in which Gary Moore found Edwards for 10 yards.
The Warriors’ defense held Clarksville on downs early in the second quarter, but a personal foul kept the drive alive, and Moore made a nifty one-handed catch for a 45-yard touchdown on a halfback pass from Edwards for a 12-7 lead.
Bonham went back up by one with 1:14 left in the half after Washington bulled his way 62 yards for a score after being content with getting the first down before eluding several tacklers.
The Tigers still had plenty of time and were aided by a discrepancy in the clock that caused a 10-minute delay and gave the home team time for one final play. Rosser took advantage from 13 yards out.
Edwards took a lateral from his holder and found Quan Bell for a two-point pass that shifted all the momentum in Clarksville’s favor.
Washington finished with 130 yards on 14 carries for the Warriors, who host Whitesboro this week for homecoming in search of their first win.

Denton Ryan 70, McKinney 63

MCKINNEY – This game certainly lived up to its billing with Ryan and Texas Tech commit Scotty Young and McKinney and LSU commit Zach Lee putting on quite a show.
The Lions (0-2) led 42-35 at the half before the Raiders tied the game 49-49 entering the final 12 minutes.
Damian Willis, who ran 28 times for 191 yards, scored his second touchdown of the game from a yard out only to be answered by an 18-yard scoring pass from Young to Bud Sasser, one of his three touchdown receptions of the game.
Ryan took the lead for good on two more touchdown tosses from Young to Michael Cudd, from 65 and 27 yards out. Cudd also had three scoring receptions, while Young tied a Texas state record with his eight touchdown passes.
Lee did his best to keep the Lions in the game, completing 20 of 37 passes for 360 yards and five touchdowns, but Young was too much to handle after passing for 550 yards on 27 of 41 passing.
Cudd (six receptions 182 yards), and Sasser (7-138) were two of three Raider receivers to go past the century mark. Antonio Anderson caught nine passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

PATTONVILLE – Defensive end Jarid Lyles recovered a fumble caused by tackle Brian Jones and fellow end Randal Sessums in the final seconds of the game, as Prairiland held on to beat Harmony and improve to 3-0.
Junior split end Justin Harris had a solid night on both sides of the ball and broke through Eagle defenders for a 55-yard touchdown reception from Tanner Connot and also caught the two-point conversion pass from Connot for the eventual one-point final margin.
